Etna Eruption

July 30, 2011

After many days of anticipation, Etna started erupting this afternoon.  At 9pm, I drove up the mountain and stopped when I  found a spot from which I could see the eruption and lava flow so clearly.  I sat on a bench in a square and enjoyed the show.  At first, the magma  squirting into the air was low and the flow narrow, but after one hour the size of both had tripled!!  It was spectacular to just sit there and watch.  I did not have my camera, so no pictures this time.

  1. Dearest Rosanna, you have a wonderful talent for travel writing! I read through the blog and felt myself transported to Italy, to your Island in a flash. Continue this blog please and I will be in Italy in a click! Your writing reminds me of Edith Wharton’s “The Cruise of The Vanadis,” a travel memoir of the Mediterranean in 1888. I will post your blog on mine and also on my author page on FB, Followers of Pamela De Leon. See you in the spring in Florence!

    • Dearest Pam,

I am still learning this whole world of blogging and had to learn how to find your comment before I could read it. You are my first comment!!!!!! I am touched by your feedback and must say this practice is therapeutic for me as I am allowing my soul to explore the land I love and writing about the experiences and feelings allows me to express my emotions in a concrete manner. I will be in USA for Thanksgiving visiting Park family in SC with my kids and then in VA in December. After that, I do not know when I will return to Sicily, but sometime early in the year. Are you planning a trip to Tuscany? Un abbraccio….

      • We will definitely get together in December then! I am looking forward to it. Yes to planning to a trip for a conference in Italy in the Spring. All depends on Book 2! Keep writing and I will keep reading.
